These are a few of my favorite (monetarily helpful) things

  • http://blogtrottr.com – This site can send you emails from your favorite RSS feeds.  It’s very useful if you check your email but don’t like to browse all over the internet finding the news on sites you are interested in.  I developed something like this for the intranet where I work, but far more sophisticated and adapted to it’s environment.  It works well when people are married to their email and not willing to use RSS reader software.
  • http://bing.com/rewards –  I highly recommend this site. Bing is at least an ok search engine, not quite as good as google in a few instances (to be fair some would argue that it is ever better than google).  It more than compensates for this with all sorts of nice little features.  Most importantly your searches earn points that you can redeem for gift certificates at Amazon.  You will find that you can get money for doing something you were doing anyway!  Just browsing the news section can earn several cents every day.
  • Freedompop – I love being able to get mobile data and phone service for no monthly fee.  Yes, you do have to pay up front, but keep an eye on their deals and make sure that you call them to get your plan set back to free once you’ve ordered.  Voice service is relatively low quality but what a value!
  • Google Voice – Get a phone number to forward to your cell phone.  Free Voice over IP service; free phone calls between from the US to Canada.  It’s truly amazing that Google gives this away.
  • Forever Stamps – It’s very difficult purchase a guarantee of a service tomorrow at today’s price.  I don’t know how the USPS is going to cope with this in the future, but it sure seems like a good deal now.  I bought several hundred dollars worth a few years ago and have only used a few.  They’re virtually assured to increase in value with inflation.  Maybe you could buy extra and sell them to someone else later?
